Course Description:
Module 1 – Early Signs of Dyslexia
This module will help you to:
Understand how reading and spelling is currently taught in school
Have a sense of expectations you should have regarding your child’s progress
Look out the common signs of dyslexia when a child is reading or spelling
Look for the hidden ‘tells’
Understand the importance of family history
Module 2 – Dyslexia Assessment
This module will help you to:
Understand how to raise the issue with your child’s school
Understand the continuum of need and staged approach to assessment
Make sense of school-based testing
Understand what to expect in an educational psychology assessment
Make sense of assessment reports
Module 3 – Supporting Your Child
This module will help you to:
Understand the importance of creating a support plan with the school
Understand strategies to support reading and spelling
Understand strategies to support confidence and self-esteem
Understand how schools and the Department of Education allocates resources that your child might be able to access
